Dear Parents,


Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy, LLC is a Childcare Center founded in 2010.  Learning Laughing and Growing currently serves the Mt. Airy and Germantown section of Philadelphia. Learning Laughing and Growing’s mission is to provide early childcare and educational activities that promote cognitive, social, and physical skills to children. Our staff and dedicated volunteers ensure that the children of Philadelphia are provided with the best early childhood education in a safe and kid friendly environment. Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy continuously works to carry out the vision of success in Early Childhood Development.


Our management staff for the Learning Center consists of: 

Ms. Syrita Edney -Owner/Director (Chelten Ave) She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services and over twelve years of experience with children.

Ms. Johnean Wheatley- Director (Chew) She has a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education with current enrollment in Master Degree in Early Childhood Education. 

Ms. Deja Frazier- Assistant Director (Chew)- She has an Associate Degree in Human Services



Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy’s philosophy is based on a set of strongly held beliefs.  We believe each child is an individual with unique abilities and feelings, strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes.  We are sensitive to each child's social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs. 


We encourage not just learning, but also the love of learning.  Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy welcomes children regardless of ability or disability.  Our focus is to provide a stimulating early care and education experience that promotes each child's social/emotional, physical and cognitive development. Our goal is to support children's desire to be life-long learners. We believe a child’s early experiences enrich and stimulate future growth. Children deserve to be treated and respected as individuals in an environment that welcomes reason, exploration, question, and imagination. We respect each child’s need for love, security, acceptance, warmth, and stimulation. 



We would like to maintain open communication. Explain clearly and carefully your wishes and expectations about how your child will be cared for. Good clear communication helps us work together in the best interest of your child. Honesty and trust, you should b\trust us as your childcare provider to do the best for your child. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have a concern in regard to your child. 


Open Communication Policy

We would like to maintain open communication. Explain clearly and carefully your wishes and expectations about how your child will be cared for. Good clear communication helps us work together in the best interest of your child. Honesty and trust, you should trust us as your childcare provider to do the best for your child. Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have a concern in regard to your child. 

 There will be a parent/teacher meeting every six months.  This process will help us to keep the families and the center on the same page. LLG Childcare Academy provides services and refers families to other services withoutregard to race, age, handicapping condition, color, creed, sex or national origin.


Description of Programs and Activities

Learning, Laughing, and Growing, strongly believes in education at an early age.  Each classroom is designed to have a daily curriculum to follow.  Each day the classrooms will cover a variety of cognitive, motor and social skills. Cognitive skills consist of thought processes, including remembering, problem solving, and decision-making, To help develop these skills the children will be engaged in but not limited to learning letters, shapes, colors, and numbers of the week. Motor skills will consist of but not limited to zipping their jackets, tying their shoes, etc. The children will be engaged in story time every day along with a variety of arts and craft projects.  To bring the best out of each child we will work one-on-one as well as have group activities.


Interaction Guidelines 

Our program promotes positive relationships among all children and adults to encourage each child’s sense of individual worth and belonging as part of a community and to foster each child’s ability to contribute as a responsible community member. We strive to respect each individual and work to create a positive emotional climate for all learners with sensitivity to differences in age, ability, background, language, culture, religion and family structure. We use direct eye contact, smiles, and a warm tone of voice, positive touch, social conversations and joint laughter to support the development of positive working relationships. We emphasize the need to work as a team and promote teambuilding processes. Our partnership in learning is supported by regular reciprocal communication affirming recognition of effort and accomplishment. We are committed to reaching out to people of different races, genders, ethnicity, and ability, and we strive to create an environment of inclusion that celebrates our differences and highlights our commonalities. We strive to build community partnerships and advocate for families and children. In providing the interest of the child we must receive all IEP or IFSP written plans, and/or special needs assessments, with the family permission. We will appropriately utilize for individual instruction. We also recommend that the child’s teacher be included and participate in the IEP/IFSP meeting along with the child’s family, EI specialist, and director or administrator. 


Hours of Operation

For your convenience we are open Monday thru Friday 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. We are open all year round with the exception for all major holidays. We committed to the learning process of your child and we feel that it is essential to your child and we ask that all children be dropped off by 10:00 am so they can be a part of our morning learning activities.


Daily Outdoor Play
Your child should have comfortable, washable and weather appropriate clothing and footwear at all times. We go outside year-round, please check with your child’s teacher for any additional clothing your child may need. Please make sure your child has two sets of extra clothing in his cubby at all times in case of emergency. 

Children are expected to go outside according to Keystone STARS PA Position Statement when: 

·       The forecast temperature/wind chill are above 25°, 

·       The forecast temperature/heat index is less than 90°

·       There is no precipitation falling, and 

·       There is no current air quality alert

Transition to new class and toilet training

  • Group or classroom moves are made according to your child’s age, development and space availability. The Director will determine the appropriate placement for all children at the center. Your Director will notify you in advance when your child is ready to move and provide time for your child to visit and transition to his or her new group. A “Transition Meeting” can be scheduled to meet with your child’s new teachers. In order to move into a preschool classroom, children must be three years old as of September and be toilet trained. A toilet-trained child wears “big boy” or “big girl” underpants and is able to use the toilet independently without adult prompting for a period of three months. At times, a non-toilet trained child may move to a Preschool class, the level 3 fee will be charged until independent toilet training is achieved. 

  • Discipline 

  • We strive to create a positive and supportive play and learning environment. At times, limits must be set for the safety and welfare of each child. Children are redirected or gently removed from any problem situation. Staff members give choices and positive alternatives rather than punish negative behaviors. Physical punishment is unacceptable as a means of discipline at Learning Laughing and Growing 

  • Biting Policy 

  • As your child grows into a toddler, he or she may encounter incidents regarding biting. The behavior is very common among toddlers and even preschoolers. Biting incidents are managed within the classrooms and a plan of action is developed and communicated to both families. Children’s names are kept confidential.
    We make every effort to control the behavior and to protect the children in the classroom.

  • To help us care for your child’s possessions, It is incredibly important that all items brought to the center are labeled with your child’s name. Please mark all items and clothing with indelible marker or name tags. Please wash linens and blankets each weekend. Personal toys and games are discouraged at the centers, except for “Show and Tell” days. Special books that can be read at circle time are always welcome. 

  • Learning Laughing and Growing will not be held responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal items. Your child will need the following supplies:



Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy does not discriminate against children or parents from admission regardless of race, color, creed, sex, or religion.  A child with special needs may be accepted based on the ability of the Center and the teachers to meet those needs. 

Before a child is enrolled in the Center the Director must receive the following: 


*Completed application

*Getting to know you form

*Health assessment form 

*Up-to-Date Immunization


*Emergency Authorization  

*Payment Agreement 

*Food Program Form 

*A copy of the parent’s driver license

Drop off/Pick up Procedure

LLG prefers the children dropped off by 10:00 A.M, so they won’t miss any meals and learning activities.  Parents who wish someone other than listed persons in emergency contact pick up the children would have to fill out a form called VERBAL REQUEST FORM. 


Registration Fee is $50.00 for the first child and each additional child there will be a fee of $15.00. Enrollment of two or more children you will get a discount of 10% off of the oldest child’s weekly tuition. A 5% off discount will be assessed when tuition is paid monthly. Parents who would like to save a spot for their child must pay 1st week’s tuition fee at the time of registration, this will guarantee a saved spot.  Registration fee and 1st week tuition is non-refundable.



Infants Full Time rate- $220.00  and Part time rate $200.00 a week for ages 6 weeks to 12 months

Younger Toddlers Full Time $ 200.00 and Part Time rate $180 a week for ages 13 months to 24 months

Older Toddlers Full Time $180.00 and $170 Part Time a week for ages 25 months to 36 months

Preschoolers Full Time $170.00 and $160 Part Time a week for ages 37 months to 4 years

After School Care and Summer Campers are $130.00 a week


Payments are due on Fridays for the following week. We will accept payments no later than Mondays at 9:00 am. Then a late fee of $20 per child per day will be added to your account.

If you have a Returned Check the fee will be $35. After two returned checks, you will only be able to pay with cash or money order.

Late Pick Up

Late pick up fees will be $15 every 15 minutes that you are late beginning at 6:01 pm. These fees reflect per child.



A full week pay is required whether or not your child is in care for the entire five days week. We prefer parents to call the center if the child is going to be absent. Otherwise we will worry and be concerned. Any child that has missed 5 consecutive days or more will be dropped from our attendance unless notified by parent of a vacation or illness.



We will be taking the children on daily walks around the neighborhood and the Playground, so we advise all parents that each child be dressed in weather appropriately clothing. The Center will also inform you on upcoming Center trips. Trips are not included in enrollment fee. All trips are to be paid separately per trip. Parents are required to pay for their child’s trip. Summer camp trips must be paid in full before the start of the camp no exceptions. All children are required to attend all summer camp trips as there will be no staff left behind to supervise. Parents are welcomed to attend childcare trips only not summer camp trips. Parents are responsible for own transportation for insurance liability reasons. 


Meals & Snacks

Learning, Laughing, and Growing will provide free or low-cost lunch to eligible families.  Parents must apply with CBS food program in order to be qualified. LLG will provide the parents with the required forms at registration process. Parents must send children with a daily lunch until approval letter is obtained. Monthly meal calendars will be provided by the Center at the beginning of each month.  Meal and snack schedules are as follows: 

*Breakfast is at 8:00am-9:00 am                       *Lunch is at 11:45am-12:45pm             *Afternoon snack is at 3:00pm-3:30pm


* We strongly advise the parents to feed the children breakfast prior arriving the center.  The breakfast will not be served until 8:00 A.M and not given after 9:00 A.M.

School Closings

Learning Laughing and Growing Childcare Academy will be closed on the following days:

Inclement Weather

Learning Laughing and Growing will closed when Philadelphia Public & Parochial School System is close due to inclement weather otherwise, we will leave an update voicemail on our landline phone or an update on our Facebook page at LLG childcare or Instagram @ Learning Laughing and Growing. For a list of school closing you may check your local TV and radio station K.Y.W. Channels 3, 6, 10, 17, or 29.


Health & Safety 

All sleeping bags/blankets will be sent home on every Friday at pick-up time. Please wash them and return them the next scheduled school day. This process will eliminate germs and bacteria’s. Each child is required to have a yearly Health Form on file. Infants must be updated every three months. All children must have up to date immunization. If and when a child becomes ill, he/she will be isolated from the other children, and the parent will be notified to pick up the child within an hour. If the parent cannot be reached, we will contact the person indicated by you on your child’s emergency care form.  Please update phone numbers as needed.  

A parent will be contacted to pick up a sick child when the child exhibits any of the following symptoms at the Center: 

  Fever of 100.0 degrees F. or higher         Diarrhea 3 loose stools in one day, or 2 in one hour 

 Vomiting 2 episodes in one day                Rash that is unexplained, except for diaper rash

 Pink Eye (conjunctivitis) is when the eye is red or pink with white or yellow eye discharge.  Other symptoms are matted eyelids, eye pain, and redness of the eyelid or skin surrounding the eye.

  •  with colored discharge          

  • or listlessness which is not consistent with the child’s temperament. The director will call the parent. 

If a doctor diagnosis an ear/throat infection, for example, and places your child on an antibiotic, the child WILL NOT be accepted into childcare-until she/he has had medication for at least 24 hours. A NOTE FROM THE DOCTOR GRANTING PERMISSION FOR THE CHILD TO RETURN TO OUR CENTER WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED.

“Doctor’s Certification to return to childcare” must accompany the child if:

  • Absence due to illness

  • Child is sent home because of illness, for example, high temperature.

  • Child is absent two (2) consecutive days.

We try very hard to minimize infections and to control the spread of any disease. By helping us observe these regulations you will be protecting your child and the other children in the center. Parents will be contacted if any of these symptoms appear and persist, so that appropriate arrangements can be made.


Parking Space

(Chelten Ave)Parents who have private transportation can park in the rear parking lot of the center and on Maplewood Ave. Parents may also pick up and drop off on Chelten Ave entrance, however parking is not free. Free parking is in the rear of the building.  If you have any difficulties please speak with the administration. (Chew Ave) Parents with private transportation can find parking on the street of Chew Ave or surrounding block, otherwise route 18 will drop you in front of our building.



Learning Laughing and Growing’s policy for damages are as follows, if or when a child damages an item on purpose, he/she will be excused the second time the act is committed the parent is financially responsible and expected to replace or reimburse for the damages made.


Termination of Care 

In the event that you find it necessary to cancel your childcare, you must give a written and dated notice of cancellation to the Center Director two weeks prior to such termination of services. You will be required to bring your account up to date if it delinquent. The Center reserves the right to dismiss any child for disruptive and/or damaging behavior. If, after a period of time and conferences between the parent and Director, a child is unable to adjust to the routine of the Center and is causing disruptive and/or damaging behavior to persons and/or property, the parent will be advised that the Center will no longer be able to provide services for their child.  This policy is without regard to race/sex/creed/color/religion and is instituted so that we can ensure the all children attending the Center are safe and comfortable in an atmosphere where they are able to grow and develop.
